In the papers, on the web, or on social media, a harmful hoax can spontaneously emerge and become viral within minutes. In today's digital landscape, rumors spread more rapidly, incur greater costs for businesses, and are increasingly difficult to dispel.
Misinformation, delayed fact-checking, and mutual distrust among media, civil society organizations, the government, and the private sector are detrimental to Cameroon — resulting in financial losses, erosion of trust, and endangering lives. During crises such as floods, strikes, and accidents, these sectors often operate in isolation: communication is hindered, calls go unanswered, and headlines are published without proper verification — ultimately causing harm to businesses.

MediaTrust 2026 will convene representatives from the media, civil society, government and the private sector to address issues related to information processing and accuracy — collaboratively.
We aim to promote the ethical practice of fact-checking before publication, demystify the growing phenomenon of defamation, and curb attacks on press freedom. We will also establish a permanent forum for dialogue among these societal segments, facilitating swift and transparent information exchange and enabling direct interaction and networking among all stakeholders.
